Pip's Nest

Letters, sounds and words, hosted by Pip.

Pip says a letter, or a sound, and asks your little one for the one it belongs to. It looks like a game of spot-it, and underneath it is the letter and sound work that early reading is built on.

Games run inside a parent account, alongside your child's profile. Nothing on this page is playable.

What happens in a round

Finding letters

A letter is named and a few letters appear to choose from.

Recognising a letter by name.

First sounds

A sound is made out loud and pictures appear.

Hearing the first sound in a word and matching it to a picture.

How it's designed

  • Pip speaks every question out loud; nothing important is written down.
  • Answer choices are pictures, so a little one who cannot read yet is never stuck.
  • A wrong tap is met with help, not a buzzer — Pip shows the answer and carries cheerfully on.
  • Pip never looks at or points to the right answer while the choices are open.
